Container Shelters

Sheltirx container shelters provide a fast, practical way to create large covered areas using shipping containers as the supporting base. Built to meet applicable international standards and available with site-specific engineering where required, they are well suited to equipment storage, workshops, maintenance areas, material storage, and other industrial operations.

Container Shelters for
Storage, Workshops & Operations

If you already have shipping containers on site, a container shelter is one of the quickest ways to turn them into useful covered space.

The shelter spans between the containers, leaving the area underneath open for storage, vehicles, machinery, or workshop use. There are no columns in the middle to work around, and the containers can still be used for secure storage.

Our shelters use hot-dip galvanized steel frames with heavy-duty fabric covers and are suitable for long-term or temporary use. They are quick to install and, unlike a conventional building, can be dismantled and moved if the space is needed somewhere else.

We supply everything from smaller shelters for basic storage through to large engineered structures for industrial sites. If a project has specific wind, snow, or building code requirements, we can engineer the shelter for the site and provide the supporting calculations and drawings.

Any Size or Spec

The right size depends on what needs to happen underneath it.

Popular widths include 20 ft, 40 ft, 50 ft, 60 ft, and 80 ft, with any length and height available. We can also engineer custom widths and configurations when an existing model doesn't suit the required footprint.

Common Applications

Container shelters are used when a business needs to put equipment, materials, or working areas under cover without constructing a conventional building.

Typical uses include:

• Equipment, plant and machinery storage

• Fleet and vehicle maintenance

• Repair and service bays

• Workshops and fabrication

• Material and pallet storage

• Covered loading areas

• Construction laydown areas

• Manufacturing and production

• Mining and quarry operations

• Waste and recycling

• Ports and logistics

• Remote project sites

From Fast-Rollout Options to
Fully Custom-Engineered Structures

Some projects need covered space quickly. Others need a structure that has to meet a specific wind speed, snow load, or local building code. We supply both.

Our standard shelters suit straightforward storage, workshop, and operational needs and can be delivered and installed without the lead time of a fully bespoke structure.

For more demanding sites, we engineer the shelter specifically for the project. We look at where the building is going, its dimensions, the containers it will be mounted to, wind and snow conditions, the size of any openings, and how the structure needs to be anchored.

This is particularly important on larger spans and exposed sites. A shelter in Florida, for example, can have very different wind requirements from one being installed in Colorado or Alaska.

Where engineering is required, we can provide the complete drawing and calculation package, including GA drawings and elevations, structural calculations, wind and snow calculations, connection and mounting details, installation documentation, and fabric warranties.

Drawings and calculations can also be stamped by a licensed PE in your state if required.

FLEXIBLE OPTIONS

Here are just a few of the ways you can customise your container shelter.

Installation and Site Requirements

Container shelters are designed for straightforward installation onto correctly positioned shipping containers. Professional installation or self-installation may be used, depending on the project.

1. Position the Containers

Place and level the shipping containers at the required spacing for the shelter.

2. Install the Container Connections

Secure the mounting brackets or connection system to the containers in the specified positions.

3. Assemble & Install the Arches

Assemble the steel arch sections and raise them into position between the containers.

4. Install the Bracing

Fit the structural bracing between the arches to complete and stabilize the framework.

5. Install the Fabric Cover

Pull the fabric membrane over the completed steel frame and position it evenly across

the structure.

6. Tension the Cover

Secure and tension the membrane across the frame to create a tight, weather-resistant finish.

Installation Time

Most units typically take 1–3 days to install. Larger structures can take 1–2 weeks, depending on size and complexity.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need planning permission for a container shelter?

In most cases, no, as these are considered temporary structures, but it depends on location, use, and duration. We always recommend checking with your local authority.

Are your shelters compliant?

Yes. Standard stocked units comply with international standards, and where code-specific compliance is needed, our engineers can design the structure to the specifications and ratings required for your project.

Can you provide engineering drawings and load calculations?

Yes. Drawings and structural calculations can be provided for the project and stamped by a licensed PE in your state if required.

What wind speed can a container shelter withstand?

Engineered shelters are designed for site-specific wind loads and can handle extreme conditions.

Can container canopies handle heavy snow?

Yes. With site-specific conditions taken into account during engineering, they can withstand heavy snow.

How long does installation take?

Typically 1–3 days for standard sizes. Larger sizes can take 1–2 weeks, depending on size and complexity.

I don’t have containers, what other mounting options are there?

Container shelters can mount to containers, concrete blocks, steel posts, and more. Contact us to find out all possible options.

Can I extend or connect multiple shelters?

Yes. Modular designs allow expansion and multi-bay setups.

Can I relocate the shelter later?

Yes. They are designed to be dismantled and moved between sites.

How long do container shelters last?

Steel frames last decades. Fabric covers typically last 10–25 years, depending on the fabric you choose, before needing replacement.
